Base station

The base station consists of four main parts:
1. radio 3. light meter sensor
2. controller 4. light meter controller

The radio is a small box that attaches to a rod antenna and should be mounted high, either fixed with brackets at the top of an existing column or alternatively on the roof of a building. Alongside the radio and antenna a light meter is installed; this is used to measure ambient light at around dawn and dusk (the readings are used when the lamps are programmed to switch according to measured light levels).

The radio and light meter are connected with cables down the column and into a separate base station controller cabinet. If the base station is on a column, the controller cabinet is installed inside a robust street cabinet/feeder pillar at the base of the column. The cabinet needs to be served with a mains supply and an IP network connection to the central system.
