Wireless network

Telensa's system uses the advanced Ultra-Narrow Band (UNB) wireless technology from Telensa's parent company Plextek.

This wireless platform has been developed over many years and is already in use in other applications, including automatic meter reading (AMR). It also provides an ideal solution for the needs a street lighting system:

  • fully bi-directional allowing for full control and monitoring
  • low cost, both in terms of lamp units and wireless network infrastructure
  • uses licence exempt radio spectrum within both European and North American radio regulations
  • long range suitable for urban, suburban and even rural deployments
  • no reliance on other wireless networks e.g. GSM
  • provides for different forms of communication i.e. both connection to individual units and broadcast to all units
  • uses base stations to connect directly to telecells, with additional relay mode from one telecell to another to help achieve high levels of coverage
