Hardware Engineer (SW21)

Purpose and Scope

Over the last decade Telensa has created a world-leading business in streetlight controls.  The company is broadening its business into Smart City infrastructure, whilst continuing to maintain and evolve its global streetlight control business. 

Our hardware team help to shape product strategy, turn ideas into products and support manufacturing of both high and low volume products.

We have an opportunity for a hardware engineer to join our team, to get involved with a broad range of tasks and challenges and to become part of Telensa’s future.

The Job Role

  • To define detailed requirements for new or enhanced hardware
  • To prepare/test/adapt prototypes
  • To analyse schematics and PCB layouts
  • To produce/maintain product documentation (BOMs, Change Notes, Concession Notes)
  • To investigate and resolve product-related issues
  • To liaise with suppliers and partners
  • To assist with design verification and product approvals
  • To contribute to the formulation of product strategy

You will be required to have the following experience: 

  • Typically a degree in Electronic Engineering or related subject
  • Typically 2-3 years of relevant experience in industry
  • Some experience of as many of the following as possible: radio technologies, embedded systems, mains power circuits, communication systems
  • Experience of electronic hardware, environmental testing, EMC/safety/regulatory approvals and an appreciation of mechanical design
  • Personal attributes:
      • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
      • Passionate about engineering and delivering solutions to our customers
      • Positive, can-do attitude
      • Detail-oriented
      • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and to react to changing demands

The below is Desirable:

  • Experience of low-level software
  • Experience of new product introduction and manufacturing support
  • Practical electronic skills
