Senior Software Engineer

With our continued global success in Lighting Control and our plans to evolve our embedded lighting products and add new Smart City features we are recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for our Access Network team. The team has responsibility for Telensa’s embedded Network Lighting Control nodes and Base Station product ranges.

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Access Network team, you will experience the full product development life cycle. You will learn and understand the existing complex system architecture and design modules to fit into that architecture. You will experience taking broad product requirements, producing technical specifications and designs to meet those requirements, then implementing the designs in an Agile setting. Your problem-solving and creativity will be tested as you work out innovative ways to add new features to resource-constrained devices. In addition to the immediate team members, you will be working closely with the Hardware team, Central System team, Product Management/Product Owners, and Operations to produce solutions that work end-to-end.

What you’ll do:

The primary focus will be on our bare metal Network Lighting Controller devices, covering:

  • Real-time C code, in a resource-constrained microprocessor environment.
  • Work with embedded application code all the way down to register access drivers for microprocessor and peripheral configuration.
  • Maintenance of existing mass deployed firmware.
  • Porting existing firmware to alternate h/w component/platforms.
  • Development and integration of new features to existing products.
  • Development of new Network Lighting Controller products.

Your qualifications:

We are seeking a senior software engineer with experience in C development on bare metal, RTOS and embedded Linux-based microprocessor platforms.


  • A 2.1 degree or better in a numerate / computer science-related subject.
  • 5+ years experience developing real-time embedded products in C.
  • Experience with bare metal-based embedded microprocessors.
  • Proficient use of Git for version control.


  • Development experience with ST/NXP/SiLabs microprocessor chips.
  • Knowledge of sub-GHz wireless comms.
  • Experience with RTOS-based embedded microprocessors.
  • Development of C++ code for embedded systems.
  • Development of production-grade Python applications.
  • Experience with a Yocto distribution on embedded Linux.
  • Experience in unit testing frameworks in an embedded environment.
  • Knowledge of security best practices on embedded platforms.
  • Experience with the Atlassian development tools (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo).
