Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Will is an accomplished business leader with 30 years experience in wireless technologies. Previously Will founded Ubiquisys, the leader in Small Cell technology for the mobile wireless industry, where he served as CTO and Board Member until the company was acquired by Cisco in 2013 for $310M. Prior to that Will held senior roles at Lucent Technologies, founding the Wireless Innovation Centres, and at Racal Radio where he held a number of senior roles in the UK and Middle East.
In 2007 Will founded the Small Cell Forum, which now represents 3 billion mobile subscribers through its membership. Will is an investor in, and mentor to, entrepreneurial businesses, and a keen supporter of the SETsquared network of start-up business incubators.
Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and Founder
Will founded Telensa with Tim Jackson in 2005, and led the company as CEO for the first 10 years of profitable growth. He has unparalleled global experience as a pioneer of wireless smart street lighting, and in particular how its economic model underpins new smart city applications.
Will has amassed more than 25 years’ experience managing and founding technology companies. In 1991 he founded Transmit International, a fax broadcast services company, sold to Xpedite Systems in 1995. After a period in the venture capital industry, he founded and was Managing Director of Radiant Networks growing it to 130 people and raising £35m in venture funding. Will was educated at Oxford University.
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Founder
After a career in communications product development, he founded Plextek in 1989 with two colleagues. As Managing Director, he grew the business into one of Europe’s leading radio product design houses. In 1997 as Technical Director and with Will Gibson he formed a spin out, Radiant Networks, pioneering mesh network radio. Tim and Will founded Telensa in 2005. Tim has a large number of international patents to his name. Tim has an engineering degree from Cambridge and an MBA from the London Business School.
Chief Sales Officer (CSO)
Sue has more than 25 years of experience in high-growth software and technology industries. Previously Sue served as Senior Vice President of EMEA and LatAM for Brightcove, a cloud-based video platform, where she was focused on large-scale enterprise sales development. She also served as Global SVP Sales for V-Nova Ltd, a video-compression company. Before this, Sue worked at Macromedia for ten years, first as General Manager for Northern Europe then as EMEA Vice President. Sue also established Adobe’s UK and Northern Europe presence, launching Photoshop and Acrobat PDF. She has held several non-executive positions, including Capture Ltd, being an elected member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFA) Council and a visiting Professor of Computer Science at Middlesex University in London.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
John has over 20 years’ experience as a Chartered Accountant working in a number of high growth technology companies and multi-national companies, both in the UK and abroad. He was the CFO of Geneva Technology Ltd when it merged with Convergys Inc in April 2001, after which he became CFO for Convergys EMEA. Since leaving Convergys, John has developed a career as a non-executive director and interim CFO with a wide range of VC backed and privately owned companies, providing both operational and strategic support.
As Chairman of Telensa, Martin brings some 30 years’ experience in high growth technology businesses covering investments in over 20 telecoms, semiconductor, wireless technology, networking and consumer Internet companies. Martin is an independent advisor to boards and investors in ICT and digital media businesses. He was a general partner at Advent Venture Partners, one of Europe’s leading growth and venture capital investors. Prior to this, Martin spent 12 years as an investment manager with venture capital fund manager MTI. In his early career he was founder and CEO of an instrumentation and telemetry business. Martin studied Physics at Oxford University.
Patrick is a founder and Partner of the Environmental Technologies Fund.
Patrick has worked in venture capital since 1985. He was instrumental in founding 3i’s venture capital practice, and later became the founding Managing Director of its Silicon Valley operation. Before this, he was a research engineer for GEC and Marconi Space Systems. He was a member of the Executive Committee and Board of EVCA from 2007 to 2010, during which time he also chaired the Venture Capital Committee. Patrick has a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from UCL, London.
VP Sales EMEA
David has over 30 years’ experience in the sales and marketing of semiconductors and subsystems, including most recently lighting control systems with Echelon. Since 2005 he has held EMEA sales leadership positions at Micrel and Echelon, where he built and managed sales teams for growth in key markets such as the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Scandinavia. David is an Electronic Engineering graduate of the University of Sheffield.
In his early career with DEC, he managed voice and graphics product design groups, and later large scale data network implementations. Mike moved to Plextek to lead the development of hardware and software for production test and recently was responsible for the development of Telensa’s manufacturing test system. Moving to Telensa, Mike now heads up the team of software and hardware engineers responsible for the design, and development of Telensa’s products. Mike has an Msc in instrument design from Aberdeen University.
A B2B technology marketing specialist with over 20 years experience in smart city IoT, mobile applications and green tech, Keith joined Telensa in July 2015. Previous marketing leadership roles include CMO at Ubiquisys, acquired by Cisco in 2013 for $310m, and Cramer Systems, acquired by Amdocs in 2006 for $375m.
VP Business Development
Paul spent most of his early career in global sales & marketing and business development with a US multinational and has over 10 years’ experience in the world of sensors and wireless technology . In 2012 Paul joined Telensa to take their market-leading technology onto the global stage. Paul is a graduate engineer from the University of Birmingham.
VP Sales North America
Jack has more than 30 years’ experience in sales and marketing management. He joins Telensa from PowerSecure (part of Southern Company), a leading utility support services company in North America, where he was Director of Roadway Lighting/ Smart City Solutions. Prior roles include with NORESCO, the energy services arm of United Technologies. Jack has held senior-level positions in the ESCO, utilities, and government services markets across North America.
William spent 20 years in various management and technical positions mainly at TTPCom related to the development of cellular modems. More recently working with the GB Smart Meter programme he developed the technical requirements specification for sub GHz ZigBee. He joined Telensa in 2014 where he is responsible for the main development organisation and programme management. William holds an MA and PhD in Electrical and Information Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
Director of Strategy
Jon has over 20 years’ experience in leadership and innovation roles at global technology companies including NEC, Toshiba and Motorola. These roles have covered fundamental research, product development and sales. Jon joined Telensa to broaden the company’s application portfolio and open new market segments. He holds a number of patents and has a PhD in engineering.
VP Product Management
James is a leader in digital innovation with significant experience across the UK, Europe and USA. He has more than 20 years building “connected” products, platforms and services in the consumer & business sectors for telecoms, technology and retail companies. Previous roles include European Managing Director for Samsung SmartThings, Head of Connected Home Products for Hive at British Gas, and Head of IoT Marketing and Products for Telefonica Digital.
Josie has over 15 years’ experience working in finance leadership roles, primarily in the telecommunications sector. This includes over 9 years of venture capital and private equity experience, with expertise gained at the heart of growth stage and start-up businesses. Josie is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
VP Network Operations
Simon has a track record of transforming global service operations, developing new revenue streams, winning bids, and delivering new products to market. His experience includes “Internet of Things”, smart metering, renewable energy, data analytics, aerospace, and telecoms. Operating internationally, he has worked in Denmark and USA, and led teams in Asia Pacific, EMEA, and Americas. Previous roles include Head of Smart Metering Implementation at Arqiva and VP Plant SCADA and Optimisation Solutions at Vestas.
