Making brighter cities

Smart City Firm Telensa Opens First APAC Office in Singapore

Global #1 in smart street lighting expanding in Asia to meet growing regional demand.

Cambridge, UK and Singapore, 19th December 2016 – Telensa, the leader in connected street lighting and Smart City applications, today announced that it has opened an office in Singapore, its first in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The move is part of the company’s wider international expansion strategy, driven by unprecedented demand for its smart street lighting and smart city solutions. Telensa has posted profitable revenue growth of over 50% in each of the past two years.

The Singapore office is run by Chris Johnston, Telensa’s established APAC Sales Manager. Chris has extensive experience of the region, having lived and worked in both Singapore and in China.

Industry analyst Northeast Group recently named Telensa as the clear global market share leader in smart street lighting systems, ahead of brands such as Silver Spring Networks, GE and Philips. Telensa’s success is built on a robust end-to-end solution, with a compelling business case built on energy and maintenance cost savings for city and utility customers.

“We are seeing strong growth across the APAC region, for both our smart lighting and other Internet of Things (IoT) solutions,” said Chris Johnston. “Singapore is a leading smart city and an ideal base for us, with a strong innovation ecosystem, robust infrastructure and easy connectivity to the rest of the region.”

Telensa’s PLANet smart lighting system runs on Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) – a type of Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) wireless network.  Unlike other systems that rely on complex mesh networks or costly cellular connections, UNB provides simple deployment, low power consumption and decades of trouble-free operation. This contributes to a compelling business case – a system that quickly pays for itself in energy and maintenance savings. Once deployed, the UNB network provides a free platform for cities to add other sensor and control applications.

About Telensa
Telensa makes wireless smart city control applications, including PLANet, the world’s most widely deployed smart streetlight solution with a global footprint of over one million lights across five continents. Based on a compelling business case with proven scalability, Telensa’s solutions also provide a low-cost platform to add multiple city-wide sensor applications.

Fundamental to Telensa’s success is its Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) radio system, which has the unique combination of low cost, long range, long battery life and 2-way communication for massive numbers of devices. Recent case studies include:
