Telensa Triumphs at Amazon Growing Business Awards 2017

Smart City Firm Named Growing Business of the Year at Prestigious Awards

Cambridge, UK – 30 November 2017 – Telensa, the global leader in connected street lighting and Smart City applications, today announced that it has been named as Growing Business of the Year with a turnover between £10m-£25m at the Amazon Growing Business Awards 2017, at an awards ceremony held on Wednesday 29th November in London.

With well over a million lights connected around the world, this year the company turned a profit of £3M on revenues of £23m. Telensa’s revenues have grown by 90% since 2016, and are 3x those reported for 2015.

Telensa’s smart streetlight system pays for itself in reduced energy and maintenance costs, improves quality of service through automatic fault reporting, and enables LED streetlight output to be dynamically controlled. And the streetpole-based wireless network allows multiple sensor applications to realise the potential of the data-driven city.

“Cities around the world are embracing the potential economic, societal and environmental benefits offered by our Smart City technology,” said Will Franks, CEO of Telensa. “We are delighted to receive the Amazon Growing Business Award from an illustrious shortlist of the best high-growth UK companies.”

Created by Real Business in 1998, headlined by Amazon and supported by the CBI, the Amazon Growing Business Awards are the UK’s most established and respected recognition of SME and entrepreneurial success. Previous winners have included Zoopla, Innocent Drinks and fashion giant Net-a-Porter. The event itself is considered to be one of the highlights of the entrepreneurial calendar, bringing together the cream of UK business and industry VIPs.
